M.B.B.S., M.S., F.R.C.S. (UK), D.N.B.E., D. ORTH, is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 15 years experience in the field of Joint Replacement. After passing the M.B.B.S., Diploma in Orthopaedics, D.N.B. and then Master in Surgery (Orthopaedics) and winning the A. K. Talwalkar Prize, he completed his
training in Mumbai and then went to the UK, where he passed his F.R.C.S. examination. He worked for 4 years in the UK in leading Orthopaedic centers, before returning to Mumbai. He has also trained in Australia in Computer Assisted Joint Replacement.
Dr. Soonawalla has written several scientific papers in national and international journals and has made presentations and given talks in many conferences and symposia. He has worked as a lecturer in
Orthopaedics in Mumbai University and continues to be actively involved in the training of residents.
He is regularly on the faculty at various Joint Replacement courses where he gives lectures and
demonstration surgeries for other Orthopaedic surgeons, and has been widely quoted in the print media including Times of India, Indian Express, DNA and India Today.
Dr. Soonawalla is the first in India to do Minimally Invasive Total Hip and Knee Replacements, which is a newly introduced technique internationally. He has also designed surgical instruments and techniques for these surgeries.
High quality Joint replacement is performed by him at international standards with the use of Laminar Air flow operating theatres, space suits and computer navigation.
He is presently Consulting Orthopaedic Surgeon to several leading hospitals in Mumbai including Jaslok, Breach Candy, Parsi General and Saifee Hospitals.
